Makati holds virtual city council sessions amid COVID-19 pandemic

CALOOCAN CITY, May 27 (PIA) -- The Makati City Council members continuously meet via virtual sessions to enact city ordinances and pass resolutions beneficial to residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Patuloy ang pagtatrabaho ng konseho ng Makati para magpasa ng mga ordinansa para sa kapakanan ng mga Makatizen sa gitna ng Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), a Facebook post said.

The sessions are being presided by City Vice Mayor Monique Yazmin Maria "Nik" Quirino Lagdameo.

While the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Makati is composed of 18 city councilors, with eight from each of the two districts, the Liga ng mga Barangay president, and the Chairman of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Makati.

From District 1, the City Councilors are Virgilio Hilario, Jr., Anna Alcina Yabut, Luis Javier, Jr., Jose Villena IV, Martin John Pio Arenas, Armando Padilla, Rene Andre Saguisag, and Camille Puno-Ramos.

The City Councilors from District 2 are Kristina Sarosa, Arnold Cruz, Dennis Almario, Benedict Baniqued, Maria Dolores Arayon, Leo Magpantay, Shirley Aspillaga, and Israel Cruzado.

The two other members of the City Council are Liga ng mga Barangay president Maribel Vitales and Makati SK Federation president Rodolfo San Pedro, Jr.

Some of the items discussed during today's virtual sessions were that of tax collection by the City Treasurer's Office using electronic or online means and important budgetary concerns.

"Ilan sa mga natalakay sa council session ngayong araw ay ang budget ng Barangay ng Pio del Pilar, at ang budget ng Sangguniang Kabataan ng Barangay Forbes Park," it said.

"Tinalakay din ng Konseho ang pagkolekta ng City Treasurer ng buwis online o electronically," it added.

To recall, because of strict physical distancing and mass gatherings prohibited by the authorities, the local government has been finding ways to continue providing vital services

"Para sa Makatizens, hindi titigil sa pagserbisyo ang inyong mga lingkod bayan," it added. (PIA NCR)
