TEHRAN -- Iran's army spokesman said the country will "definitely" cooperate in strengthening Syria's air defense, as agreed by both countries in July, semi-official Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.

"During a recent visit to Syria by Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces (Mohammad Hossein Baqeri), it was decided that the country's air defense be strengthened at the demand of the Syrian government," Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi said in a state TV program. GAZA -- The Palestinian foreign minister announced on Tuesday that Palestine decided to give up its right to chair the presidency of the Arab League in its current session.

"This doesn't mean we will give up our seat in the league because that will create a vacuum which can generate different scenarios ... we don't want at this sensitive time," Riyad al-Maliki told a news conference in Ramallah. (Palestine-Arab League-Chair)

BEIRUT -- Two huge explosions rocked a building storing weapons belonging to Hezbollah in Ain Qana, a village in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, causing an unspecified number of injuries in the area, MTV local TV channel reported.

GAZA -- Leaders of Hamas and Fatah, the two major Palestinian rival factions, are meeting in Turkey to end their internal division and achieve reconciliation, officials said Tuesday.

"The meetings in Turkey are an extension of the previous meetings and dialogues held between" the two Palestinian movements "to implement what has been agreed upon," said Khalil al-Hayya, a member of Hamas' politburo, said in a press statement. (Palestine-Hamas-Fatah)
