The Seattle Sounders have loaned star forward Jordan Morris to English Championship side Swansea City for the rest of the 2020-21 season.
Morris, 26, has registered 35 goals and 20 assists in 105 MLS games with the Sounders since 2016, winning two MLS Cup championships (2016, 2019) and earning a spot on the league's Best XI in 2020.
"At the end of the day, this move is all about Jordan and what he wants from his career," Sounders general manager and president of soccer Garth Lagerwey said in a release on Thursday.
"Our club and city are behind him as he embarks on the next phase of his journey, and should he return to Seattle at the end of this loan, we know he will be stronger for the experience."
Morris also has 10 goals in 39 appearances with the U.S. men's national team.
In 2020, he tallied 10 goals and eight assists in 22 games with the Sounders.
"I'm very proud of the player and professional that Jordan has become. He's been a large part of this club's success and has more than earned this opportunity to ply his trade abroad," Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said in a release. "This particular move gives him a chance to showcase his skillset and opens a number of options for his future. On top of that, I am excited to watch him play for Swansea."
Swansea City are currently second in the English Championship table, seeking a return to the Premier League for the first time since being relegated after the 2017-18 season.
