DAMASCUS -- The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday slammed the Turkish plan to create a safe zone in northern Syria as an "aggressive and colonial act."

The ministry said in a statement that the Turkish side aims to create an "explosive hotspot" inside Syria and continue to "arm and operate terrorist groups to use them against the Syrian people," according to the state news agency SANA. (Syria-Turkey-Safe Zone)

SANAA -- Representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia started meetings in Jordan's capital Amman on Wednesday to discuss lifting the siege on Taiz city, which holds strategic significance in southwestern Yemen.

TEHRAN -- The death toll in a 10-story commercial building collapse in southwestern Iran has risen to 16, official news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday.

TUNIS -- One illegal immigrant died and 75 others went missing after a boat carrying 100 immigrants sank off Tunisia's eastern coast, a National Guard spokesman said on Wednesday.
