Fire breaks out at high-rise tower under construction in Dubai

DUBAI, UAE - An early-morning blaze that erupted on the lower floors of a beachfront apartment tower under construction in Dubai sent hundreds of workers fleeing from the site on Wednesday, though authorities have not as yet reported any injuries.

The building, located in front of the twin Al Habtoor Grand Hotel towers, and next to the Le Royal Meridien resort hotel at Jumeirah Beach Residence, and bordering Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour, is part of the Al Habtoor Group, and will be known as The Residences, Al Habtoor Grand. The high-rise tower, to comprise 50 levels. and appearing to be in the final stages of completion, became the scene of sudden chaos shortly before 7:00 am Wednesday. The fire was first reported at approximately 6:50 am, prompting an immediate evacuation.

Within half an hour, the first two fire engines had arrived and were swiftly joined by two more units 20 minutes later. Firefighters wasted no time in deploying ground-level water pumps, directing powerful jets toward the flames. Their rapid response paid off: just thirty minutes after the first brigade's arrival, the fire had been extinguished.
