PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's Consulate General in Aleppo continues to operate and provide services to Armenian and foreign citizens, despite ongoing armed clashes between Syrian government forces and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, the consulate announced.
It also published contact information to ensure accessibility during the emergency.
There are no reports of Armenian casualties, but all educational institutions in Aleppo are currently closed, and memorial day events have been canceled.
At least four civilians have been killed and dozens injured in the violence. Syrian aviation authorities have suspended operations at Aleppo International Airport for 24 hours.
The conflict escalated between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, resulting in shelling and a surge of displaced civilians fleeing affected neighborhoods. On January 5, talks were held in Damascus regarding the integration of Kurdish armed units into the Syrian Armed Forces. The Kurdish side reported progress, but further negotiation on details is required.
