PanARMENIAN.Net - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the return of four Armenian captives from Azerbaijan and the repatriation of Syrian citizens convicted in Armenia during the 2020 war are not connected events, Radar Armenia reports.
"These two developments are not linked. We also aim to advance relations with the Syrian Arab Republic. We hope that this decision, made as a friendly gesture toward Syria, will help create a more favorable environment for the Armenian community there," Pashinyan said.
On January 14, Azerbaijan handed over Davit Davtyan, Gevorg Sujyan, Vicken Euljeckjian, and Vagif Khachatryan to Armenian authorities.
On the same day, Armenia returned Syrian nationals captured in Artsakh in 2020, who had been convicted of terrorism and sentenced to life imprisonment, to Syria via Turkey. According to the Ministry of Justice, these individuals will serve the remainder of their sentences in their home country.
