DAMASCUS, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian army on Thursday launched intense shelling targeting positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo, the state-run SANA news agency reported.
SANA, citing a military source, reported that the strikes were directed at previously identified locations but did not provide further details. The move marks a sharp escalation amid ongoing clashes and security operations in the northern city.
Earlier on Thursday, the army published maps showing areas controlled by the SDF in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, urging civilians to avoid those locations as military forces prepare to engage them using "appropriate weapons."
